Chesnut mushroom grain spawn
Chestnut Mushrooms (Pholiota adiposa) are a robust and flavourful variety, characterised by their rich brown caps and firm texture. With their deep, earthy flavour, they are perfect for a range of dishes, from sauces and soups to pizzas and stews. These mushrooms are a favourite in both gourmet and everyday cooking.
Chestnut Mushrooms grow best in cooler temperatures (16–18°C) and moderate to high humidity (80–90%). They require good fresh air exchange to prevent the growth of long stems and to encourage dense, compact clusters.
They grow well on a variety of substrates, including pasteurised straw, hardwood sawdust. For optimal results, the substrate should be sterilised or pasteurised to remove contaminants. Supplementing with additional nutrients like wheat bran can also increase yields and improve the overall quality of the mushrooms.
Typically, Chestnut Mushrooms colonise their substrate in 14 to 21 days, with fruiting starting 7 to 10 days after full colonisation. With the right conditions, your first harvest can be ready in 4 to 6 weeks from inoculation.
